As Juan Manuel Marquez prepares for the biggest fight of his boxing career on September 19 against Floyd Mayweather Jr., he's willing to do anything to get an edge -- including drinking his own urine.
Yes, Marquez revealed on the latest episode of HBO's Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 that he believes in practices urophagia, the consumption of urine. Sounds disgusting to me, but Marquez is one of millions of people around the world who think drinking urine is beneficial. Many Eastern cultures have viewed urine as having healing powers, and in the West drinking urine has become an alternative medicine.
Marquez isn't even the only world-class fighter who drinks urine; UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida also drinks his own urine. If it's good enough for Marquez and Machida, it's probably worth trying for other pro athletes. Even if I'm not going to try it myself.

I Think That is The Most Degusting Thing I Ever Heard Who Will Wanna Drink There Own Pee I Don't Get It! Well If He Gets Sick That Is Own Fault For Doing It!
He says he does it becasue it contains vitamins and minerals. Apprently he's never heard of shelling out 6 bucks for a bottle of centrum.
The only thing more annoying than people typing in all caps is people that type a capital letter at the beginning of every word!
Next thing you're gonna tell me is that he eats his poopie too. Please don't tell me, I mean even if he does, I don't want to know.

I agree completely. I believe typing in all caps and capitalizing the first letter is used to cover up very poor grammar.
I would rather drink my own urine than teach some of the people that comment on these articles.
Urine is a sterile body fluid and there is no harm in drinking it. As previously stated, many cultures drink urine for medicinal purposes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but while urine is one of the cleanest substances *inside* the body, it gains impurities as soon as it hits outside air. So if you're gonna drink it, you better drink it fast.

While sterile, there is indeed harm in drinking it. Urine is various byproducts of metabolism, some of which are toxic - nitrogen compounds, creatnine, etc. The fact that other cultures engage this practice doesn`t make it safe or healthy.

Your body expells urine for a reason. It contains things that are detrimental to your body.

Urine is STERILE. It contains mostly water, so drinking it in reasonable quantities is harmless probably. However, it is important to remember that urine also contains concentrated amounts of salt etc that the body is excreting. So in the event of being stranded, it may help for a short period of time to prevent total dehydration, but eventually, the kidneys will just stop making urine when dehydration becomes severe enough. It may SOUND disgusting, but it is actually cleaner than the water from your tap!

For the best result, drink an equal amount of water with your urine. You reduce toxicity that way. It is indeed medicinal.

All of you who babble about it being safe, clean, sterile, and funniest of all, "cleaner than your tap water." tap water has chlorine in it. How could urine be cleaner? Let's settle it.
